I have a Ginger and XO Pork Rice recipe on this site, but XO sauce is a bit expensive, so this is my newer, more affordable version. It’s almost as good at the fraction of the price. The pork can be replaced with fish fillet or even chicken if pork is not your style. Warning: you’ll need tons of rice with this one!

Ingredients (serves 6)

1 kg pork belly (cut country style, about 3/4 to 1 inch thick)
2 tbsps fermented black beans (taosi)
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsps bottled Chinese chili and garlic sauce
1 tsp sesame oil (optional)

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients together and let marinade for about 15 minutes.
  2. Place everything on a steam proof pan and steam for 12-15 minutes.
  3. Serve over rice. Lots of it.
