I have always been a fan of adding another flavor (apart from sweet) to desserts, and I was so enamored with a rice krispie treat dish by Fat Rice in Chicago because its salty flavors played so well with the sweetness. While in Penang, I thought of adding spiciness to complement the sweetness and I came up with this dish.

Ingredients (serves 6)

3 tbsps unsalted butter
10 oz marshmallows
6 cups rice krispies
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp curry powder
2 tsps chili powder
1 tsp garam masala

Directions

  1. In a pot, melt the butter and marshmallows until smooth.  Add in all the spices and mix well.
  2. Pour in the rice krispies and mix well.
  3. Place the mixture on a baking sheet and smooth to form a rectangle.  Let cool.
  4. Cut and serve.
